WAORANI EXPEDITION 5 days/4 nights

DAY 1: COCA/NEONENO COMMUNITY/ CAMPING/ TRADITIONAL PARTY

The expedition starts in the city of Coca, the meeting point is Hotel Auca at 7:30 am for those who arrive by bus, and then we pick up those arriving by plane at the airport. We continue our trip by local bus to the bridge of the river Shiripuno (2 hours approx.). Snacks. Then we continue by motorized canoe or rafts down the river to the Waorani community "Neoneno" where we build our camp. The trip takes approx. 4 hours and gives you a first impression of the diversity of the wildlife in the jungle. We
might be able to see parrots, toucans, monkeys etc. along the way. Dinner at night. At night we are going to have a party with the Waoranis. They will dress up in their traditional clothes, sing, dance and they expect the same from your part.

DAY 2: JUNGLE HIKE / PANORAMIC VIEW/ WATERFALL / HUNTING TECHNIQUES

Breakfast. We hike through the jungle (5-6 hrs approx.) with our Waorani indigenous Guide to a beautiful waterfall. During the hike you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Amazon basin at 310 meters above sea level from where you can observe the overwhelming Amazon jungle which surrounds us, part of the Yasuni National Park. The Waorani guides will show us the way and explain us the biodiversity of the jungle, the use of medical plants which the community uses to heal illnesses. They will show us their hunting techniques with their blow gun and spears. We have lunch at the waterfall and take a refreshing bath before hiking back to the camp. Dinner at night. Possibility to chat with the Waoranis about their culture and learn some words in Waorani.

DAY 3: SHEARING WITH A FAMILY/ LAGOON / PIRANHA FISHING/ NIGHT HIKE

Breakfast. Visit a waorani indigenes family, where we will shear their daily activities, together with the Waoranis we are going to prepare "chicha", a typical drink in the jungle made from the yuca plant, lunch at the camp, in the afternoon will head by canoe to an amazing lagoon to practice piranha fishing, back to the community to prepare typical jungle dinner. Dinner at the camp, after dinner you can go for a night hike in jungle, where you can appreciate the variety of insects and some amphibious.

DAY 4: WALK TO THE CEIBO / RELAX AT THE SHIRIPUNO RIVER

Breakfast in the morning, then we will go for a hike for a couple of hours, where we will be able to see the "Ceibo" the biggest tree in the area, back to the camp for lunch, in the afternoon will enjoy swimming at the shore of the Shiripuno river, dinner at the community.

 




DAY 5: NEONENO CAMPING /SHIRIPUNO BRIDGE/COCA

Wake up early in the morning to be able to see birds, Breakfast, and pack all the stuff to start our way back to the bridge of Shiripuno river. Lunch. Transport back to Coca. End of the trip.

PRICE: USD 110 per day per passenger + Air ticket USD 140 round trip, or bus ticket= USD 20 round trip, or USD 280 private SUV.

INCLUDES:

Transport from the start of the trip in Quito (bus or plane) and back, 3 meals per day (expect breakfast on day 1 and dinner on day 4), lodging or camping, rain coats, rubber boots, purified water, bilingual Guide, waorani Guide.

You should bring:

Insect repellent, sun cream, camera, binoculars, light pants, about 4 t-shirts, couple of shorts, Flash Light with enough batteries for 4 days, camera fully charged, small cash (coins), copy of your passport, cap, bathing suit, towel, special medicines you use, sunglasses, plastic bags big enough for your back pack, several zip bags for electronic stuff, sandals (flip flops or water shoes), water bottle, small first aid kit.
