Antisana Volcano

Guanguiltagua Expeditions offers this unique encounter with some of the last wild condor species that fly freely in Ecuador. Come and explore the Sanctuary of Andean Condors (Vultur Gryphus). Be witness of the magnificent freedom that the second biggest flying bird on earth experiences when dominating the air of the Antisana active volcano Reserve.

In accordance with the last Condor survey in the Andes of Ecuador, the number of the Andean condor population had decreased dramatically in the last 10 years from 82 into 32. Don't miss your chance to see this amazing bird.

Other birds that are easy to spot are the Carunculated Cara-Cara, the Black headed Ibis and the Andean Gull. Apart from this we can find some unique fauna like Andean rabbits, white tail dears and Andean foxes.

The Antisana volcano is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world and it is surrounded by the 30000 hectares Antisana Ecological Reserve, protected by the Ecuadorian National Park System. One of the biggest attractions is the Micacocha Lake, where lots of locals practice sportive trout fishing.

The one day trip includes a drive till the base camp (14000 ft) where the mountain climbers stay overnight for the acclimatization before climbing to the summit.

We also organize your climb to the summit of Antisana including all the equipment and logistics.

We can also organize 2, 3, and 4 day treks with camping and logistics to enhance a real paramo experience.

Be part of the lucky ones that get to see this marvelous paramo paradise. We guarantee this expedition as a real "off the beaten path experience"
